NLS is a free braille and talking book library service for people with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical disability that prevents them from reading or holding the printed page. Services and special reading equipment for persons who have low vision or who are blind are available through an application process. People are eligible for this service if they are unable to read standard printed material either because they are blind or have physical handicaps that make it difficult to handle books. After the application request is approved, the individual may be able to borrow a wide variety of items.
